What Are Labels- Part Two

Labels have many uses, here are some examples of just a few of them.

Special Labels

  • Piggyback Labels – There are produced from two separate layers of adhesive substrate. These types of labels can often be seen on Express Mail envelopes. The bottom layer is affixed to an item and forms the back for the top layer. The top layer can be removed and affixed to another surface, and may change the message on the bottom layer when it is removed.
  • Blockout Labels – These labels have a strong adhesive and are used to hide information under them.
  • Holographic Stickers – This type of label is mainly used to authenticate an item or protect against counterfeiting, and are often used for identification cards, credit cards, and CD/DVDs.
  • Radioactive Labels – These labels allow the in vivo tracking of chemical compounds through the use of radioactive isotopes.

Uses for Labels
Labels are most often used to provide information or identification with a product or idea. You will often see stickers affixed to products to let you know what brand they are. They are also used widely as part of advertising or political campaigns, for example the stickers handed out at US polling stations which read “I voted”. These stickers serve as a handy reminder to others that today is the day to vote.

Bumper stickers are often placed on cars as a way for individuals to demonstrate their opinion or commitment to a particular cause. Stickers are also often used inside cars, for instance the details of the next time the car will be serviced or vehicle registration information.

Products frequently have barcodes as a way to identify and track them.
